summer solstice...

Happy Summer Solstice! The heat wave arrived just in time and the top of Mt. Tam is the perfect place to be on days like this. Fresh warm breezes high above the world, rolling golden hills for miles and miles, vast ocean views towards the setting sky, a calming sensation and peace as the sun slowly vanishes behind the horizon; Pure perfection. I love living in Marin.

GG...
It's done! The most special portrait I have ever drawn. This is a portrait of my late grandmother, Phyllis or GG as I called her, taken from a photo of her in her twenties. She had always been one of the biggest supporters of my art, so when she passed I wanted to do something very extraordinary for her. With only a month until the memorial I knew this would also be a major challenge; it had to be absolutely perfect and in so little time. The framed portrait was the only image placed up by the podium where the speakers stood for the ceremony. I knew it was just right when it brought tears to my grandfather, JJ’s, eyes. He was my biggest critic since he knew her better than anyone. I received a lot of compliments but more importantly I knew GG would have loved it. I only wish she could have see it. I gave it to JJ with all the love in the world.© Anna Johnson, 2011. All Rights Reserved.

our blue eyed angel in the sky...

Dedicated to Phyllis Jean Hackman Johnson
July 17, 1924 - April 16, 2011
To my beautiful Grandmother: You are my true inspiration, an amazing woman and mean everything to me. I will always look up to you and the incredible life you and Grandpa lived together. Everything you introduced me to while growing up has influenced who I am today, who I want to be and where I want to go in life. Thank you for everything you did for Sarah and me. We owe you more than you'll ever know. Don't worry, we'll take care of Grandpa for you; like dad says, you two are the greatest love story ever told and I know he misses you with every inch of his heart. We all do. It's so hard to say goodbye but this isn't goodbye forever, just until next time. These few words don't seem like enough but I'll always be thinking of you and keep you close to my own heart. I will love you forever and always, GG. Love your darling granddaughter, Anna.

snow tops...

Mt. Tamalpias, CA. I've lived in Marin all my life and this was the first time I got to experience the rare occasion of snow on Mt. Tam. The road was closed so we hiked in from the Bolinas Fairfax Road split. It sure was cold but so beautiful and worth the walk. We even saw a coyote roaming around. It was such a surreal moment to be at home sitting in the snow with the vast ocean views ahead. Simply spectacluar! © Anna Johnson, 2011. All Rights Reserved.
